I'm Ruth, a stained glass artist working from my garden studio in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. I create bespoke stained glass artwork and run hands-on workshops for people who want to discover the craft for themselves.
About Ruth Mullan
My journey into stained glass
I graduated from Eastbourne College of Art and Design and was later elected as a diploma member of the Chartered Society of Designers in graphic design.
My creative journey eventually led me towards traditional stained glass and lead work, where I trained under master craftsman Keith Nickels. That training helped shape the way I approach stained glass today, combining traditional techniques with my own love of colour, design and artistic expression.
For me, stained glass is all about the relationship between colour, light and texture and the way those elements can completely transform a space.
One of my favourite parts of being a stained glass artist is working with people to interpret their ideas.
A commission might start with a vision, or a simple conversation about something that inspires you.
I enjoy taking those ideas and turning them into a piece of artwork that feels personal to you and works beautifully within its surroundings.
Alongside my commissioned work I love introducing people to the traditional heritage craft and seeing the joy in creating a panel when a collection of pieces of coloured glass starts to become something they have created themselves.
Whether you're new to stained glass or already have some experience, my workshops are designed to be friendly, relaxed and hands-on.
